Used for purgation, specifically in cases of abdominal diseases caused by Vata imbalance. Also used in the management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.

Key ingredients

Adult dose
Kwatha: 50-100ml; Churna: 3-6 grams, or as directed by a physician.
Pediatric dose
Dosage must be carefully determined by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.
Preparation steps
- Collection of Tilvaka root bark.
- Drying of the root bark.
- Grinding the dried bark into a powder (for churna).
- Decoction preparation (for kwatha): boiling the bark in water and reducing to the appropriate volume.
- For Ghrita preparation: boiling the paste of Tilvaka with ghee, milk and other ingredients as per classical reference.
- Avaleha preparation: mixing Tilvaka decoction with jaggery and other herbs, then cooking it until it reaches the desired consistency.
Safety contraindications
- Severe dehydration.
- Acute diarrhea or dysentery.
- Intestinal obstruction.
- Pregnancy
