Panchamulam is a group of five roots, primarily used for reducing Vata-related fevers, inflammation, and improving digestion.
Purpose
To alleviate fever caused by Vata dosha.
Indications
- Fever, inflammation, digestive weakness, loss of appetite, respiratory conditions involving Kapha imbalance (cough, cold), Ama (undigested toxins), and conditions arising from Vata imbalance.

- Vatahara (balances Vata dosha)
- Kapha-Vatahara (balances Kapha and Vata doshas)
Key ingredients
- Bilva root
- Agnimantha root
- Shyonaka root
- Patala root
- Gambhari root
- all in equal parts.
Adult dose
Decoction: 40-60 ml, once or twice daily. Powder: 3-6 grams, once or twice daily.
Pediatric dose
5-10 ml of decoction, or as directed by the physician
Preparation steps
- Gather the five roots (Bilva, Agnimantha, Shyonaka, Patala, Gambhari).
- Wash and clean the roots to remove any dirt or impurities.
- Cut the roots into small pieces.
- Boil the roots in water until the water reduces to a quarter of its original volume.
- Strain the decoction and let it cool.
Safety contraindications
- High Pitta conditions, severe dehydration, or as directed by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.
