Niruhakhya Enema (Niruhakhya Basti)

Niruhakhya Basti is a decoction enema, typically a Pichcha Basti administered in small quantities, used to manage diarrhea that is unresponsive to initial treatments. It helps in eliminating the morbid Doshas and establishes health and immunity in the cells.

Purpose

To treat diarrhea when initial treatments are ineffective.

Indications

• Constipation, abdominal distension, lower back pain, sciatica, musculoskeletal disorders related to Vata imbalance, Ama accumulation in the colon.

Adult dose

400-800 ml as an enema, depending on the individual's age, strength, and bowel capacity. This should be determined by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

Preparation steps

• Take prescribed herbs for the decoction.
• Boil the herbs in water until reduced to a quarter.
• Filter the decoction.
• Add honey, rock salt, and medicated oil to the decoction.
• Mix thoroughly until a homogenous mixture is formed.

• Contraindicated in cases of severe rectal bleeding, intestinal perforation, or acute inflammatory conditions of the colon.
