Preparation steps
- Prepare a decoction of Triphala by boiling the herbs in water until reduced to a quarter.
- Separately, powder the other herbal ingredients.
- Melt ghee in a pan, add the herbal paste and Triphala decoction, and cook over low heat.
- Continue heating until all moisture evaporates, froth subsides, and the paste forms a wick-like consistency (varti).
- Filter while still hot through a muslin cloth.
- Store in airtight glass containers to protect from light and moisture.
Safety contraindications
- Severe obesity or metabolic syndrome if used in excess long term, due to ghee's heavy nature.
- Patients on immunosuppressants should exercise caution.
