Madanaphala, combined with Dashamula, is used in decoction enemas for its emetic and purgative properties.
Purpose
To be used in decoction enemas.
Indications
- Vamana karma (therapeutic emesis) in Kapha disorders, Kustha (skin diseases), Vishavikara (poisoning), Gulma (abdominal tumors), and other conditions where emesis or purgation is indicated. Can be used as a digestive and appetizer in milder doses.
- Useful in treating asthma, bronchitis, and chronic cough.
- Used in treatment of skin diseases, ulcers, flatulence and coeliac disease.

Adult dose
For Vamana: 6-12 grams of fruit pulp. For Virechana/Digestive: 1-3 grams of fruit pulp. Dosage varies considerably based on individual factors and the physician's assessment.

Preparation steps
- Collect mature fruits of Madanaphala during spring or summer.
- Dry the fruits and remove the seeds.
- Soak Madanaphala in a decoction of Yashtimadhu, Kovidara, Kadamba, Samudraphala, Bimbi, Shanapushpi, Arka, Apamarga.
- Grind the seeds with ghee, butter, honey and sesame paste and dry.
