Preparation steps
- Gather all the necessary ingredients: rice, milk, water, sugar, ghee, and any additional herbs or spices as per the specific recipe.
- Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it for about 30 minutes to soften it.
- In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat ghee over low heat. Add the rice and saute for a few minutes until it turns slightly golden.
- Pour milk and water into the pan and bring to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the rice is fully cooked and the mixture thickens to a porridge-like consistency.
- Add sugar and any desired herbs or spices (e.g., cardamom, saffron) and continue to simmer for another 5-10 minutes, stirring well until the sugar is dissolved and the flavors are infused.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before serving.
