Adult dose
5-10 grams (1-2 teaspoons) once or twice a day
Pediatric dose
2.5-5 grams with warm milk, consult physician
Preparation steps
- Ingredients from Haritaki to Hima are powdered and paste is prepared by adding sufficient quantity of water.
- Ghee is heated along with prepared paste and stirred continuously while adding water.
- It is heated till there is subsidence of froth and all the moisture content is evaporated.
- Heating is stopped when the paste rolled between fingers forms varti (wick).
- It is packed in tightly closed containers.
Safety contraindications
- Should not be taken if one is overweight and/or Kapha is excessive. Vomiting, diarrhea, frequent indigestion, excessive thirst, fainting spells, pregnancy, chronic dry throat and aversion to food and nausea are also contraindications.
