Adult dose
50-100 ml of the decoction (kwatha), typically prepared from approximately 10-20g of the powdered herb.
Pediatric dose
25-50 ml (depending on age and condition)
Preparation steps
- Gather the five ingredients of Brihat Panchamula in equal parts: Bilva (Aegle marmelos), Agnimantha (Premna mucronata), Shyonaka (Oroxylum indicum), Patala (Stereospermum suaveolens), and Gambhari (Gmelina arborea).
- Wash and dry the roots separately to remove any dirt or impurities.
- Cut the roots into small pieces or crush them into a coarse powder.
- In a stainless steel pot, add 1 part of the combined herbal powder to 16 parts of water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to simmer.
- Continue simmering until the water is reduced to one-fourth of the original volume.
- Strain the decoction through a clean muslin cloth to remove any solid particles.
- Allow the decoction to cool slightly.
- Add milk as per the physician's recommendation.
- The decoction is now ready for use.
