Preparation steps
- Sesame seeds are tied into a bundle in a cloth and allowed to stay in flowing water for seven days.
- Then they are soaked in milk and decoction of Madhuka (licorice) daily and dried in the shade; this is continued for seven days.
- Once again, they are soaked in milk, removed from their husk, and powdered.
- The powder is then mixed with a fine powder of herbs (from Nalada to Eladi Gana herbs) and macerated with milk.
- This herbal oil is cooked with the remaining drugs (Shaileya to Durva), and milk and oil are added to it.
- When only oil remains, it is filtered and stored in a glass bottle; this is Gandha Taila.
Safety contraindications
- Avoid in active Pitta disorders (e.g., ulcers), pregnant women (nasya form), and those with sesame allergy unless directed by a practitioner
