Preparation steps
- Collect the necessary raw materials, including grains (such as rice, barley, or horse gram), herbs, spices, and water.
- Wash and clean the grains and other solid ingredients thoroughly.
- In a large earthen pot or stainless steel vessel, combine the grains, herbs, and spices with water in the specified proportions as per classical texts.
- Boil the mixture.
- Allow the mixture to cool down to lukewarm temperature.
- Transfer the mixture to a fermentation vessel, traditionally an earthen pot.
- Cover the mouth of the vessel with a clean cloth and seal it tightly.
- Allow the mixture to ferment naturally for 3-7 days, depending on the ambient temperature and desired sourness.
- Check the fermentation process daily. The mixture should develop a sour smell and taste.
- Once fermentation is complete, strain the liquid through a clean cloth to remove solid particles.
- The strained liquid is Dhanyamla, ready for use.

- Medo-sara purusha (individuals with excessive fat tissue)
- Wounds including surgical wounds
- Vatha Raktham (Gout)
- Raktha Pitham (bleeding disorders)
- Vidagdhajeernam (indigestion with burning sensation)
- Shakhagatha and Sama Pitham (Pitta disorders)
