Preparation steps
- Obtain Bala root and prepare a decoction by boiling it in water until it reduces to one-fourth.
- Prepare a Kalka (paste) of Bala root.
- Mix the Bala Kalka, Bala decoction, and cow's ghee in the specified proportions.
- Add cow's milk to the mixture (optional, in some formulations).
- Boil the mixture on a low flame until all the water evaporates and only the ghee remains.
- Ensure the 'Sneha Paka' is at Mridu Paka stage, indicated by the Kalka being sticky to touch and producing a crackling sound when placed on fire.
- Filter the ghee through a clean cloth.
- Store the Baladya Ghrita in a sterilized, lidded glass jar away from direct sunlight.
Safety contraindications
- Avoid in conditions with poor digestion or Ama accumulation.
