Preparation steps
- Boil the medicinal herbs in coarse powder form with 16 parts of water in an open vessel until the volume reduces to one-eighth.
- Filter the resulting decoction to remove solid particles.
- Dissolve a specific amount of jaggery, raw sugar, or honey (as per the formula) in the decoction.
- Filter the mixture again through a muslin cloth.
- Add fermenting agents such as Dhataki flowers (Woodfordia fruticosa) or Madhuca indica flowers.
- Incorporate spices like pepper, long pepper, clove, and cinnamon (Prakshepa Dravya) as specified in the formula.
- Transfer the mixture into a fermentation vessel, traditionally made of clay but stainless steel is also acceptable.
- Seal the container with mud-smeared cloth and keep it in a clean, dry room.
- Maintain the temperature around 25-30 degC for fermentation.
- Allow fermentation to occur for 15-45 days, depending on the specific formula.
- Occasionally stir to ensure uniform microbial activity.
- After fermentation, filter the fermented material through muslin cloth.
- Pack the filtrate in airtight containers and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Safety contraindications
- Peptic ulcers may be aggravated due to heating potency. Certain formulas should be avoided during pregnancy without professional advice. Not recommended for children under 5.
