Preparation steps
- Collection of Ingredients: Gather all the necessary herbs and ingredients as per the specific Arishta formulation.
- Preparation of Kashaya (Decoction): Prepare a decoction by boiling coarsely powdered herbs in water. Reduce to a quarter of the original volume.
- Addition of Guda (Jaggery) or Sharkara (Sugar): Add jaggery or sugar as specified in the formulation to the cooled decoction.
- Addition of Prakshepa Dravyas (Additional Ingredients): Add the prakshepa dravyas (e.g., spices, aromatic herbs) in powdered form.
- Fermentation: Transfer the mixture into an airtight container (e.g., a wooden vat or a glass jar) that has been fumigated with medicinal fumes.
- Sealing and Incubation: Seal the container and bury it in a heap of grains or keep it in a warm place to facilitate fermentation.
- Observation of Fermentation: Monitor the fermentation process for a specific period (typically 15-30 days), observing for signs of complete fermentation (e.g., frothing, change in smell).
- Filtration: Once fermentation is complete, filter the liquid through a clean cloth.
- Storage: Store the Arishta in a clean, airtight container in a cool, dry place.
