Half Door Joining (Ardhakapatasandhika)

Purpose

Describes a specific method of ear bandaging/tying where the external long lobe is tied inside along with the small lobe, resembling a half-door.

Indications

• Joint pain (especially due to Vata imbalance), arthritis, muscle stiffness, sciatica, back pain, neuromuscular disorders, general debility.

Adult dose

Not typically used in infants; use with caution in children, adjust based on age and weight under medical supervision.

Preparation steps

• Gather all the necessary ingredients as per the formulation, which will depend on the specific oil being used as a base (e.g., sesame oil).
• If herbs are fresh, clean and dry them thoroughly. If using dried herbs, ensure they are of good quality and properly stored.
• For herbal oils, gently heat the base oil (e.g., sesame oil) in a pan.
• Add the herbs to the warm oil and allow them to simmer gently. Maintain a low flame to prevent burning.
• Continue to simmer until the herbs have infused their properties into the oil. This may take several hours.
• Once the infusion is complete, allow the oil to cool.
• Strain the oil through a fine cloth or filter to remove any solid particles or herbal residue.
• Store the prepared oil in a clean, airtight container in a cool, dark place.
