Preparation steps

• Gather all the necessary ingredients as per the formulation mentioned in classical texts.
• Clean and prepare the herbs for decoction.
• Prepare a decoction (kashayam) by boiling the herbs in water until reduced to one-fourth of the original volume.
• Filter the decoction to remove any solid particles.
• Prepare a fine paste (kalka) of the specified herbs.
• Melt ghee in a clean, heavy-bottomed pan.
• Add the herbal paste (kalka) to the melted ghee and saute for a few minutes.
• Pour the herbal decoction (kashayam) into the pan with the ghee and herbal paste.
• Cook the mixture on low heat, stirring continuously, until all the water evaporates and only the ghee remains.
• Check the consistency of the ghee by performing the 'varti test' (wick test) as described in Ayurvedic texts.
• Once the ghee is properly prepared, allow it to cool.
• Filter the ghee through a clean cloth to remove any remaining solid particles.
• Store the Abhayaghrita in a clean, airtight container, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

Safety contraindications

• Not recommended for use during acute diarrhea or dysentery.
