- Weakness, emaciation, debility, convalescence, Vata disorders, promotes strength and nourishment
Classical indications
- Visarpa
- Katigraha (low back pain)
Karma
- Balya (strengthening), Vrishya (aphrodisiac), Brimhana (nourishing)
- Vatahara (pacifies Vata)
Key ingredients
- Fine powder of barley or rice (Shali)
- water
- ghee
- and seasonings
Adult dose
100-200 grams, once or twice a day
Pediatric dose
Topical application (use with caution, considering child's sensitivity)
Preparation steps
- Mix the herbs with sour liquids like curds, buttermilk, or wine.
- Add ghee and salt to the mixture.
- Heat the mixture to make a semisolid paste.
- Wrap the hot Utkarika in castor leaves or a sterile cloth.
- Apply to the affected area while warm.
Safety contraindications
- Not suitable for individuals with acute skin infections or open wounds.
